I may be what my friends lovingly refer to as a coconut, brown on the outside and white on the inside, but whenever I travel there are always Indians excited to see another Indian, with Barcelona being no exception.
After driving all day to get to Jasper, I decided to take a walk. While enjoying the blissful views, suddenly someone starts to honk. Looking back a bit puzzled, I see a taxi driver smiling at me. Screaming with excitement to see another Indian.
Upon my arrival in Barcelona, an Pakistani chap helped me with my baggage, not an easy task considering I had two, fifty pound bags. Similarly, any Indian in a store has been extremely helpful.
Interestingly enough, in my experience, Indians are more likely to know more English than the general population. As soon as I told my father all these things he had a good laugh. It seems Indians are everywhere!
The other cool thing I forgot to mention is that often I will hear English music whenever I am in store. Its kind of like a little bit of home that I can sing along to. The interesting bit is that sometimes I will hear Bollywood music playing in the middle of a huge department store. It always brings me joy to see a local trying to sing either the English or the Hindi. I can't explain it. Probably the same joy comes when they catch me trying to sing some Spanish. Now, I know there are places with more Indians than here, but I guess that Barcelona is more open than other places I have been to.
PS: No Indian stores though! I can't find any Indian stores!!!
